Colin Young

Colin Young is the Managing Director of Nine Cubed Group, and as the founding shareholder is responsible for strategically leading the Group’s full extent of niche services to the South African and International property markets.

Colin is an investment management and financial services professional, with 20 years of commercial experience in property, finance, retail, mergers & acquisitions and fund management. Prior to launching the Nine Cubed Group, Colin was investment head of Old Mutual’s South African property investment arm Old Mutual Investment Group: Property Investments (OMIGPI) which managed listed and unlisted property funds of some ZAR30 billion (approximately $5 billion, Colin was responsible inter alia for seven fund managers with investments in South Africa, Namibia, Mauritius and India. The property funds included the unlisted open-ended Old Mutual Triangle Funds as well as the two closed ended listed funds: the JSE listed SA Corporate and Namibian listed Oryx. He was a director of all these funds.

During his eight years with Old Mutual, Colin initially launched and managed the Standard & Poor’s award winning Old Mutual SA Quoted Property Unit Trust (an open-ended South African collective investment scheme), and led the sizeable acquisition of the Marriott Property Group (a large South African Property business), which doubled the portfolio size of the Old Mutual Property asset management business. He led the product development and launch of South Africa’s first open-ended unlisted funds: the Old Mutual Triangle Real Estate Core, Development, SRI and India funds. Colin gained his initial property and retail experience at Woolworths, a large single-brand listed South African retailer, where he traveled extensively and was involved in many strategic projects, including the acquisition of the listed Australian retailer, Country Road.

Colin holds Master of Business Administration (cum laude) and Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) degrees through the University of Cape Town. He is a registered Chartered Accountant (South Africa), having completed his articles at Ernst & Young in 1993, and is a member of the South African Institute of Directors as well as many South African property bodies. He is an authorized fund management representative with the South African Financial Services Board, and is a respected commentator on property trends in South Africa.

Ross Gregory

Ross Gregory is director and shareholder of Nine Cubed. He is responsible for leading the Nine Cubed Capital and Property services to the South African and International property markets.

Ross has an in depth knowledge of the property development process, having worked extensively with the development funds during his time with Old Mutual’s South African Property investment asset manager (OMIGPI). More recently, he has focused on both traditional and development leasing, as well as in buying and selling buildings.

During his 7 years with Old Mutual, Ross was instrumental in the launch of Old Mutual’s South African open-ended unlisted Triangle Property Funds. He also participated in the project team that spent two years developing the product. Thereafter, he was responsible for raising the external equity for these funds, successfully raising in excess of ZAR3 billion in external equity. Clients included many of the major pension and retirement funds in South Africa.

Prior to joining the OMIGPI fund management team, Ross was part of the OMIGPI Marketing Team, where he was appointed Head of Marketing and Investor Relations for the Triangle Real Estate Funds. He served in this position for 3 years until a restructure found him raising Real Estate capital worldwide for the broader Old Mutual Investment Group (South Africa).

Ross completed his Postgraduate Degree at the University of Cape Town before taking up a permanent position at OMIGPI in 2003. He is an authorised Financial Services Board representative, having become FAIS Compliant in 2009.
